Dry Eye Syndrome is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye.
Its effects range from subtle but constant irritation to inflammation of the anterior (front) tissues of the eye.
The tear film which lubricates the eyes consists of three layers secreted by different glands around the eye and in the eyelids. Dry eyes can be due to the inadequate function of any or all of these glands.
The main treatment will be lubricant eye drops. Your Dr. will also diagnose the cause of your dry eye and prescribe other treatments. Warm water fomentation is an effective way to control the condition and should be done diligently when we advise you to do so.
Here is what you can do to make our treatment more effective:
- Avoid direct exposure to wind, a fan, or an air conditioner.
- While working on the computer for long periods
- Blink more often. This spreads tears over the eye.
- Take a break every 15-20 minutes.
You need to understand that the treatment needs to be continued for a long time and should not be stopped until your Dr. tells you to.
In the older person, the treatment may need to be continued for a lifetime as the gland function is irreversibly reduced. Our treatment will ensure that you can continue all your activities like reading and computer work lifelong.
