How does it help?
A compress is soothing. It can make your eye feel better right away. It can also add moisture by activating the oil glands in the eyelids. It keeps natural oils from clogging, relieves pain and the wet warmth can relax your eye.
How to make a warm compress?
Fill a bowl with water that’s warm but not hot. Put a clean washcloth in it. Wring it out so it’s damp but doesn’t drip. Fold the washcloth and place it on your eye. Leave it there for about 2-3 minutes. When the washcloth gets cold, you can dunk it into the water again and repeat the process. The water will generally get cold after 30 seconds,so you have to do it about 4 times for 30 seconds each.
The doctor may tell you to do this several times day. Use a clean washcloth for each session.
How does it work?
It is a very effective way to treat several problems related to the lubrication of the eyes. It increases the blood flow to the glands in the eyelids which produce the oil and mucous layers of the tear film. These glands often get blocked and cause swellings in the eye like a style or a chalazion. Warm water compress is the best way to relieve the block so that the glands function better and to treat these swellings.
